here (link)Bakerlaw’s David Baker presented to the Special Joint Committee on Physician Assisted Dying. Mr. Baker was joined by University of Toronto Professor Trudo Lemmens.
The panel is tasked with providing recommendations for how the Federal Government should respond to the Carter v Canada decision legalizing physician assisted suicide in Canada.
Mr. Baker and Professor Lemmens presented Mr. Baker’s and health law lawyer, Gilbert Sharpe’s draft legislation on physician assisted suicide to the panel. They also spoke to the need to have a system of strong safeguards to ensure adequate protection for the vulnerable is balanced with the right to access assistance in dying.
